Black Heritage Tour in Amsterdam
Visiting Amsterdam from the canals is the best way to get experience this beautiful historic city. The tour journey begins at the Dam Square, the heart of the city. While exploring the African legacies of the past and diverse Dutch culture, we will pass several historically and culturally significant landmarks that may include: the West India House, the Anne Frank House, the Hermitage Museum and much more.

After a brief introduction, the tour journey begins with a walk around the Dam Square area before boarding our vessel or continuing as a walking tour or on board a horse-driven carriage. The regular tour package includes a museum visit. During the tour you will learn about recently revealed 'Black community' of men, women and children that lived in Amsterdam as early as the 16th Century alongside the history of the wealthiest merchants who were Directors of the WIC (West India Company) or the VOC (United Dutch East India Company), shareholders or owners of plantations in the Dutch colonies.
The tour continues visiting historical landmarks that include the Maritime Museum where a replica of an18th century VOC ‘cargo ship' is docked, which is a similar type of ship outfitted to transport enslaved Africans. During the boat tour we also visit a museum and tour exhibits related to the Dutch colonial period and paintings with Black and indigenous peoples' presence. The tour ends after the museum visit. After the tour you may choose from many of the great restaurants in the area to commemorate and reflect on your experience.
